So we always recommend the following: grab a box and stretch canvas (Yes they have a different canvas on) split the canvas into as many segments as mediums you like to experiment with your different undercoats, washes, base layers (treated) and then leave a bare strip and put your favorite medium to rest on both pieces. Repeat the same sequence on the stretch and the box canvas.
This is a great way to see, feel and experiment.
